My husband came home with the announcement that the dinosaur exhibit at the Smithsonian was closing for renovations for five years, so in a panic (because what is our dinosaur loving four year old going to do if she misses out on this!!?! ) we planned a whirlwind trip to D.C. My sweet parents even came along, as it ended up being part of the my mom’s birthday celebration weekend….a true testament to what selfless, amazing grandparents they are.
Funny how we’ve yet to the learn the lesson that, as much as we want to go all out providing experiences for our little ones, we really shouldn’t try so hard. They may appreciate that we made the effort once their grown and see the pictures, but for now, a museum is no better than checking out a new slide at the playground. It’s new and fun for five minutes, but then it’s time to move on to something better. So, of course, on this trip, seeing the T-Rex and a few fossils was all my oldest needed for joy fulfillment, and there were just “too many people.” Thankfully a mall full of protesters and french fries from an overpriced food cart bought us some more time to make the metro ride worth the money….
