The second I met Carrie and Aaron I was smitten. I loved how comfortable they were with each other and how trusting they were of me to capture their sweet connection, and I was so looking forward to their October wedding in Charlottesville.
And then in May, riding to my own sister’s New York wedding, I saw an email from Carrie explaining that Aaron would be deployed just before their intended wedding date. Before I could even read the entire message, my eyes teared up as my heart broke for the blow of that news and how I knew they must be feeling. But if I’m honest the tears were also a little selfish because I assumed it meant I wouldn’t be their wedding photographer.
But then I kept reading and realized that yes, plans would be changed, but they would be having a backyard wedding at Aaron’s property in Kansas…and would I be free in August if they flew me there to photograph the wedding? Cue more tears on my end, followed by waves of gratitude and me talking too fast for my husband to understand what I was even saying and my girls in the backseat going “what’s a Kansas? and why are you crying?!”
Anyway, fast forward to a few weeks ago and I had the pleasure of making my way to Kansas for the first time. It was so wonderful getting to reunite with Carrie and Aaron’s beautiful faces once again, and their family and friends were just as kind and welcoming as I knew they would be. They made me feel like one of crew, and there was an amazingly comfortable vibe that naturally accompanies warm people and relaxed backyard weddings.
Also, no one would have believed that they took less than three months to pull it all together. It was personal and professional at the same time, and again, the beautiful energy that flowed from the beginning of the wedding to the very end was a true gift to capture.
So, with no further ado, here is the story of Carrie and Aaron, two people who will always hold a special place in my heart.
