It’s always an honor to photograph a family, but when it’s a family session that’s following the elopement celebration session and maternity session of your dear friend, there’s an extra special zing to it.
Hence is the story of Helen and her beautiful little family. For this session – and my first time meeting her sweet son – we met in the woods on one of those perfect early summer evenings, where he played with his favorite toy (which also happens to be a nod to Helen’s New Zealand home) and stopped once in a while to flirt with the camera and cuddle with his parents. It was relaxed and fun and ultimately resulted in this beautiful little collection of moments that mark the stage of childhood where one’s still a baby but is discovering the joy of independence.
I’ll add that though the gallery was delivered as a mix of color and black and white, the timelessness of the latter became my favorite. Probably because I’m someone who has an entire wall of black and white images from my own children’s lives, and I’m drawn to the way that the absence of color puts an emphasis on the mood. Plus, practically speaking, my need for colors to match in a large display doesn’t matter when it comes to adding to the wall…which, after only seven years of being a parent, is quickly running out of space…
So on that note, stay tuned for info regarding black and white family sessions coming late November 2017! But in the meantime, enjoy the childhood magic below:
